NTSB Investigates Fatal Tennessee School Bus Crash Amid Clarksville Students' Return to Class.

CARROLL COUNTY, Tenn. (WZTV) — Federal investigators are examining a school crash that resulted in two fatalities on Friday, March 27, 2026.

A from the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System, transporting students to a field trip, overturned on Highway 70 west of Nashville. The crash claimed the lives of two Kenwood Middle School students, with at least seven other students and the bus driver injured.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is leading the investigation in conjunction with the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Authorities stated the inquiry will focus on the bus driver's performance, passenger safety measures, and the management of school transportation.

Students returned to classes Monday, where Clarksville-Montgomery Schools Director Dr. Jean Luna-Vedder encouraged staff and students to wear black and gold in support of those affected by the tragedy.

Witnesses reported a gathering at Kenwood Middle School to honor the victims. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is currently preparing a crash report, and further details will be available as the investigation progresses.
