TAMPA, Fla. — Two people died following a crash involving two vehicles on US 41 on Sunday evening.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. on June 7. A Toyota Camry was traveling north when a Nissan Pathfinder overtook it from behind, resulting in a collision in the inside lane. The Pathfinder came to a stop in the inside lane, while the Camry ended up in the raised center median.
Authorities reported that the driver of the Pathfinder, 21-year-old Navesh Persaud from Tampa, and a 55-year-old passenger in the Camry from Land O' Lakes sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Camry, a 53-year-old male from Land O' Lakes, and a 60-year-old female passenger from Lutz both suffered fatal injuries at the scene.
FHP stated that their investigation revealed Persaud was impaired at the time of the crash. He has been arrested and charged with DUI manslaughter and DUI serious injury.
In a separate incident, an attorney confirmed that the husband in a shooting case involving four deaths in Plant City has cooperated with police. Search warrants filed by the Plant City Police Department provided additional details regarding the ongoing investigation.
