SPARTANBURG, S.C. — A Spartanburg County School District 2 driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license following a crash on May 7.

No children were injured in the incident on Arrowood Branch Road, according to district spokesperson Adrian Acosta. The S.C. Highway Patrol is currently investigating the crash.

“After the accident, we learned that the driver, who has since resigned, was arrested for driving with a suspended license,” Acosta stated, declining to provide the driver's name. Law enforcement informed the district that the driver's license was suspended due to a failure to appear in traffic court.

Acosta confirmed that driver records are checked upon hiring and annually thereafter. Additionally, driving records are verified by the S.C. Department of Motor Vehicles during the renewal of the driver's Commercial Driver's License.

The Highway Patrol has not yet responded to requests for comments.

District 2, which has its main office in Chesnee, serves the northeastern area of Spartanburg County, including the rapidly growing Boiling Springs community, and serves approximately 12,000 students.
