Serious injuries in Casco bike crash involving truck

CASCO, ME — A 71-year-old man sustained serious injuries after colliding with a vehicle while riding an electric bicycle on Route 302 on Tuesday at approximately 11:14 a.m.

According to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, James Nason of Sebago was riding in the breakdown lane when he attempted to turn left and struck the side of a truck traveling eastbound.

Authorities reported that Nason, who was not wearing a helmet, was from his bicycle. He was transported by helicopter to Maine Medical Center with serious injuries. The driver of the truck, identified as 29-year-old David Fields from Portland, was not injured, and the vehicle sustained only minor damage.

An independent witness and surveillance footage from a nearby business corroborated the details of the incident. Authorities stated that Fields is not suspected of any wrongdoing, and an investigation is ongoing.
