MORTON, Miss. — A late-night crash in Scott County on Saturday resulted in the death of a student and serious injuries to others.
According to authorities, the incident occurred around 11:05 p.m. on Highway 13. A northbound 2023 Chevrolet Malibu veered off the roadway and collided with a tree.
The driver was identified as 17-year-old Xavier McDonald from Morton. He was accompanied by four other minors at the time of the crash. One passenger, also a student, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Details regarding the conditions of the remaining passengers remain unconfirmed. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but further information on medical aid or transport to hospitals has not been released.
