An 8-year-old girl riding an electric scooter through a residential neighborhood was killed after being struck by a pickup truck April 27, Smyrna police said.
The girl has not been identified by police.
Her death adds to a growing number of people killed so far this year on Delaware's roadways. As of April 27, the Delaware Department of Transportation said there'd been 31 fatalities.
That's 35% more from 2025 for the same time period. There'd been 23 fatalities by the same time last year.

The girl was headed northbound on Eagle Way toward Greens Branch Lane about 4:55 p.m. as police said a Chevrolet Silverado headed west on Greens Branch Lane approaching Eagle Way.
That's where, for reasons under investigation, police said the scooter and pickup collided.
The Smyrna girl was taken to an area hospital, where she died.
The truck driver, a 37-year-old Felton man, was not injured.
