Summerville Motorcycle Pursuit Ends in Fatal Crash Early Tuesday Morning
Summerville, SC—A motorcycle pursuit by the Charleston County Sheriff's Office resulted in a fatal crash early Tuesday at approximately 3 a.m.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a deputy initiated a traffic stop on a motorcycle without a displayed tag at the intersection of Highway 78 and Midview Drive in Ladson. The rider fled, prompting the deputy to pursue. Shortly thereafter, the motorcycle crashed at Dunmeyer Hill Road and Maria Eden Road in Summerville.
Authorities reported that the deputy immediately commenced life-saving measures; however, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene by Charleston County EMS.
The Charleston County Sheriff's Office Forensic Services Unit and Traffic Unit responded to the incident. The Charleston County Coroner's Office is investigating and will release the identity of the deceased when appropriate.
