ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — One man is dead and two others are critically injured following a three-car collision early Sunday morning, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department (SPPD).
At approximately 1:15 a.m., a Mercedes sedan operated by Cleveland Sanders, 43, was traveling westbound on 18th Avenue South when it crossed the median near 29th Street South and collided head-on with an eastbound black Nissan sedan, authorities said.
The Nissan, driven by Clifford Washington, 27, had Dy'Jean Roberts, 26, seated in the front passenger position, according to SPPD.
Following the initial impact, an Oldsmobile driven by Terrell Burney, 50, struck the front of the Nissan while also traveling westbound, authorities reported.
Roberts was transported to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital in St. Petersburg, where he succumbed to his injuries. Both Sanders and Washington were subsequently airlifted to Tampa General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, SPPD stated.
Burney was assessed at the scene and released without hospitalization.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
