One killed in crash on Columbus' Southeast Side

One driver died after a collision at Winchester Pike and Refugee Road on Columbus' Southeast Side at 2:40 p.m. June 22.

According to the Columbus Police Accident Investigation Unit, a white 2003 Yukon traveling south on Winchester Pike collided with a 2019 Kenworth dump truck turning west onto Refugee Road.

Authorities said the vehicles crashed in the intersection and the impact separated the Yukon's body from its frame.

Columbus Division of Fire medics responded and pronounced the Yukon driver deceased at 2:45 p.m., authorities said.

Witnesses reported via the Citizen app that the ran a red light and was before impact; police have not confirmed that account.

Columbus police closed the intersection of Winchester Pike and Refugee Road during the investigation.
