SISSONVILLE, W.Va. (WCHS) — A motorcycle crash closed the left lanes of Interstate 77 in both directions Sunday afternoon.
The incident occurred just after 12:15 p.m. at exit 114 on I-77 South, according to a Metro 911 alert.
Only one individual was on the motorcycle; the rider was reportedly wearing a helmet, which became dislodged during the crash.
Emergency responders transported the rider to a nearby hospital with head and facial injuries, and significant blood loss was reported. Authorities confirmed the rider was unconscious but breathing upon transport.
The fast lanes of I-77, both northbound and southbound, were shut down to facilitate the emergency response.
