BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — A vehicle recovery operation is underway following a crash into the North Fork of the Payette River near Smiths Ferry on May 31.

According to the Valley County Sheriff's Office, Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue (IMSARU) was called to assist in the search and recovery efforts after a vehicle went into the river. Multiple agencies, including the Valley County Sheriff's Office, Valley County Search and Rescue, Idaho State Police, Boise County Sheriff's Office, and the FBI's Cellular Analysis Survey Team, are participating in the operation.

Search efforts involved ground teams, drone operations, and thorough searches on both banks of the river, IMSARU reported. On June 1, the IMSARU Technical Rescue Team managed a complex vehicle recovery, coordinating with Code Red Towing and a kayaker from Cascade Raft & Kayak to establish systems for safely retrieving the submerged vehicle.

The recovery was completed without incident, and no occupants were found inside. IMSARU continues its search, refining plans and evaluating viable areas based on new information. Emergency responders remain committed to locating the vehicle's occupants as search operations persist along the river corridor.
