Motorcycle crash kills North Augusta man fleeing police.

NORTH AUGUSTA — A North Augusta man died Saturday night following a motorcycle crash while fleeing from police.

The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on October 18, on Edgefield Road near Belvedere-Clearwater Road, according to Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables. The rider, identified as 46-year-old Roosevelt Walker, was operating a 2013 Harley-Davidson northbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control and was from the motorcycle while eluding a North Augusta Department of Public Safety officer.

Officers provided aid until EMS arrived. Walker was transported to Wellstar MCG Health in Augusta, where he was at 11:03 p.m. An autopsy is scheduled for next week in Newberry.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol and Aiken County Coroner's Office are investigating the crash.
