Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run crash in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH – A 26-year-old man from Kansas was killed early on August 3 in a incident.

Dezhon Overton, visiting from Kansas City, died at Grand Strand Medical Center after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Kings Highway at Williams Street, near 21st Avenue South. Authorities reported he was one of two pedestrians injured in the collision.

Myrtle Beach Police were alerted to the crash site shortly after 12:30 a.m.; however, the suspect vehicle had fled the scene. According to investigators, the department's Real Time Crime Unit helped locate the vehicle using surveillance cameras and license plate readers.

The driver, 39-year-old Bryan O'Neal Thomas, has been arrested and is currently held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center. He faces two charges of hit-and-run resulting in death or injury, with a bond set at $25,000 for each charge.
