Motorcycle crash during pursuit leads to one death in Cincinnati

One person died following a motorcycle crash in Queensgate during a police pursuit on Oct. 16.

Austin Hust, 28, was identified by the Hamilton County Coroner's Office as the deceased. The crash occurred near Dalton Avenue and Hopkins Street, where Hust was fleeing officers responding to a reported stabbing and shooting in Westwood.

Dispatchers received the calls just before 2 p.m. on Oct. 16, according to Lt. Jonathan Cunningham of the Indiana State Police. As officers arrived in Westwood, they observed Hust fleeing on a motorcycle, leading to a pursuit that ended in a fatal crash.

Witnesses reported seeing Hust driving southbound on Dalton Avenue at a high speed shortly before the incident. Jack Fay, an employee at a nearby paint store, heard a loud crash resembling two vehicles colliding moments after observing the motorcycle. He noted police vehicles arrived within 30 seconds.

John Rofles, a foreman at a steel shop across the street, confirmed hearing a severe crunch sound before more than 25 police officers arrived at the scene.

One person involved in the earlier Westwood incident was and is undergoing emergency surgery. Their name and condition have not been released. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
