KENNER, La. — Kenner Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a bicyclist that occurred Wednesday night.
Around 9 p.m., officers responded to reports of a collision at the intersection of Loyola Drive and West Esplanade Avenue. Upon arrival, they found a male bicyclist with severe injuries; he was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.
Authorities said the 65-year-old victim, a Kenner resident, was riding an e-bike northbound on Loyola Drive when he allegedly disregarded a red traffic signal and entered the intersection. He was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on West Esplanade Avenue through a green light.
The driver remained at the scene, and preliminary investigations indicate no criminal charges are expected. The investigation is ongoing. Witnesses or anyone with video footage is encouraged to contact the Kenner Police Department Traffic Division at (504) 712-2222.
On Saturday, June 6, 2026, at approximately 6:00 a.m., Traffic Investigators will conduct a follow-up examination and reconstruction of the crash scene. Portions of the intersection will be temporarily closed for about one hour, and motorists are advised to seek alternate routes to avoid minor traffic delays.
