Laurel, DE — A Maryland woman was killed in a vehicle collision at the intersection of Old Stage Road and Salt Barn Road on Sept. 15, 2026, according to Delaware State Police.
The unidentified 54-year-old woman from Mardela Springs, Maryland, was traveling southbound in a Honda HRV at approximately 5:50 p.m. when she was struck by a Ford Maverick driven by a 32-year-old Laurel man who allegedly ran a stop sign.
Emergency responders transported the woman to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The male driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to an area hospital.
This incident marks the second fatal crash involving a woman of the same age at this intersection in two months. On Aug. 27, 2026, 54-year-old Norma Eckard of Delmar was killed under similar circumstances when her vehicle was struck by a man who failed to stop. That driver, 63-year-old James Elliott of Laurel, was subsequently charged with second-degree vehicular homicide.
