Wilmington Man Dies in Two-Vehicle Crash Near Newport
Sept. 11, 2026, 2:08 p.m. ET — A Wilmington man died following a two-vehicle crash on West Newport Pike near Glen Berne Drive.
The incident occurred on Aug. 18, when a Dodge Charger traveling west in the left lane was struck by a Chevrolet Colorado. The Colorado, driven by Walter Howell of Wilmington, reportedly entered West Newport Pike from Glen Berne Drive and merged into the same lane as the Charger.
Authorities said emergency services were dispatched to the scene, where one individual was pronounced dead. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released. No additional injuries were reported.
Roadway conditions were impacted with lane closures in effect for several hours as investigators conducted their work. The Delaware State Police are leading the investigation into the cause of the crash.
