PIlot Identified in Fatal Florida Jet Crash

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL — A private jet crash in Palm Beach County on Sunday afternoon claimed the lives of all nine individuals on board, including 20-year-old pilot Nathalia Filgueiras, according to her mother.

The Learjet 60 was en route from Texas to the Bahamas when it crashed in a residential area, leaving a large crater and debris scattered across the street. Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene, but authorities confirmed no injuries occurred on the ground.

According to Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, all occupants aboard the aircraft were confirmed deceased. The identities of the other passengers and the co-pilot remain undisclosed. Filgueiras had over 1,300 flight hours and held her pilot's license since age 17. She worked for Upper Jets, a private charter firm based in Fort Lauderdale.

Investigators are currently examining the crash, which occurred shortly after the pilot reported encountering and light icing, requesting to ascend to 37,000 feet. Shortly thereafter, she issued a mayday call to air traffic controllers, indicating a rapid descent and expressing concern over the impending crash.

Jared Isaacman, an administrator at NASA, commented on the tragic incident, emphasizing the challenges faced by early-career pilots in charter services and acknowledging Filgueiras' commitment to her role. He stated, “She was doing her job, communicating with ATC right to the end in a terrifying situation.”

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities seeking to understand the circumstances leading to this tragic accident.
