Motorcycle Crash Claims Life of Harbeson Man on Route 1
LEWES, DE – A Harbeson man died on September 1 following a motorcycle accident on Route 1 near Lewes.
The crash occurred around 6 p.m. when a 77-year-old Pennsylvania woman driving a Kia Sorento was traveling northbound on Route 1 and attempted a U-turn into the turn lane at Bay Crossing Boulevard. At that moment, a 77-year-old Harbeson man on a Harley Davidson motorcycle was approaching the intersection southbound in the far-left lane.
According to authorities, the Kia turned into the motorcycle's path, resulting in a collision that ejected the motorcyclist. The Harbeson man was transported to an area hospital, where he later died. His identity is being withheld pending family notification. The Kia driver and her two passengers reported no injuries.
Authorities closed the roadway for approximately three hours to investigate and clear the scene. The Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit is handling the investigation.
