KENNER, LA — A 65-year-old man was killed while riding an e-bike in a crash Wednesday night, according to Kenner Police.
The victim, identified as Keith Johnson of Kenner, was involved in the incident around 9 p.m. at the intersection of Loyola Drive and West Esplanade Avenue. Authorities reported that Johnson, riding north on Loyola, disregarded a red light and entered the intersection, colliding with a westbound vehicle that had a green light.
Despite being transported to a local hospital, Johnson succumbed to his injuries, authorities said. The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Currently, no criminal charges are anticipated against the driver, as confirmed by Kenner Police Deputy Chief Mark McCormick.
Witnesses are encouraged to contact the Kenner Police Traffic Division at 504-712-222 with any information or video footage related to the crash. Kenner Police will conduct a crash reconstruction and plan to close the intersection of West Esplanade Avenue and Loyola Drive at 6 p.m. Saturday for about an hour, creating possible traffic delays. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes during this time.
