5-Year-Old Killed, Father and Sister Injured in Downeast Maine Crash

A 5-year-old boy was tragically killed, and his father and infant sister were injured in a crash in Hancock County on Thursday night.

The incident occurred shortly before 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Route 9 and Route 193 in Township 22. According to Maine State Police, the boy was seated in the front passenger seat and was not properly restrained. He was found in critical condition, and despite life-saving efforts by troopers and EMS personnel, he was at the scene.

The driver, identified as 33-year-old Dion Campbell of Indiana, and his 10-month-old daughter were transported to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Authorities reported that both are expected to survive. Campbell is the father of the children, and the three were the only occupants of the vehicle.

Preliminary investigations indicate the vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign before striking an embankment. Route 9 was closed for several hours while officials processed the scene.

Assisting at the scene were the Cherryfield, Osborn, and Aurora fire departments, as well as Bold Coast EMS and Northern Light EMS. The crash remains under investigation.
