Beddington, ME — A 5-year-old boy died Thursday morning following a crash on Route 9.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene at the intersection of Routes 9 and 193 around 11:25 a.m. According to Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety, the child was found in the front passenger seat in critical condition and was at the scene despite lifesaving efforts.

The vehicle was driven by the boy's father, 33-year-old Dion Campbell of Indiana. Both Campbell and his 10-month-old daughter were taken to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign before striking an embankment. It is believed that neither child was properly restrained at the time of the crash, Moss stated.

Route 9 remained closed for several hours during the investigation. The Aurora, Cherryfield, and Osborn fire departments, along with Bold Coast and Northern Light EMS, assisted at the scene.
