LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Four months have passed since a tragic UPS plane crash on Nov. 4, which claimed the lives of 15 people, including Lou Fedon and his granddaughter, Kimberly Asa.
Sherline Fedon, the daughter and mother of the victims, shared her grief and newfound purpose in an interview. “It just doesn’t feel real,” she said, reflecting on the sudden loss.
The crash profoundly impacted Sherline, who described her father as her emotional anchor: “As a daughter, it was like, who do I go to? My dad is who I had here in Louisville.” Kimberly, her only child, was a source of immense joy for her. “The main reason why I kept breaking down is because she’s my only child,” she explained.
Amidst her grief, Sherline finds strength in faith, recalling a moment when Kimberly prayed alone the day before the crash. “I feel like my faith is what’s keeping me together,” Sherline said.
In honor of their memory, Sherline’s brother, Ethan Fedon, founded the Asa Love Foundation, aimed at helping single mothers and providing Adventure Bibles to children. Their first event remembered Kimberly’s fourth birthday.
“It honestly feels good to just know that people know of them,” said Sherline, emphasizing the foundation’s mission to share joy and support, similar to what Lou provided her.
Despite the ongoing pain of loss, Sherline recognizes purpose in her sorrow. “Sometimes I laugh, and I’ll be like, why? Or I’ll have a happy moment, and I’ll be like, there’s nothing to be happy about,” she said, adding that purpose gives her direction.
