Life-threatening injuries result from multi-vehicle crash on I-95

Lifethreatening Injuries Reported in Multi- Crash on I-95 in Attleborough

One person sustained life-threatening injuries in a multi-car crash that closed Interstate 95 in Attleborough, Massachusetts, for several hours overnight.

According to the Attleborough Fire Department, responders arrived at I-95 North around 1:17 a.m. to find a debris field extending nearly a quarter mile after a collision involving two vehicles.

A male driver was trapped in one vehicle and required extraction by firefighters. He was transported in critical condition to Rhode Island Hospital via advanced life support ambulance. The second vehicle was found fully engulfed in flames beneath an overpass, having rolled over and struck a bridge support about 400 yards away.

The female driver exited her vehicle prior to emergency services arriving and was later taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, officials reported.

Mark Renker, Attleborough's district chief, noted that several bystanders offered assistance before first responders arrived, but the crowd complicated the identification of individuals needing medical attention.

A photo released by the fire department showed one vehicle with catastrophic damage. The highway remained closed until approximately 5 a.m. while the Massachusetts State Police conducted an investigation. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation also inspected the bridge for potential damage.

The bridge was cleared for use following an evaluation, authorities said. Further details regarding the cause of the crash are not yet available as the investigation remains ongoing.
