Charlotte, ME – A 40-year-old man died early Saturday morning after crashing his Corvette in a high-speed incident following a bar disturbance.
Just before 1 a.m. on October 7, Maine State Police responded to a fatal crash on Charlotte Road in Charlotte, a small town in Washington County. The driver, identified as Robert Boggia Jr. of Whiting, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to authorities, Boggia had threatened patrons at a bar in Calais before fleeing the scene in a red Corvette. Witnesses reported he was driving at speeds of approximately 150 mph on Route 1 when law enforcement attempted to pursue him.
A deputy from the Washington County Sheriff's Office was on Charlotte Road when Boggia sped past and later found the vehicle's wreckage. Boggia was ejected from the car and located a significant distance from the wreck.
State police noted that high speed was a contributing factor in the crash. Toxicology results are pending as part of the ongoing investigation.
Charlotte Road was closed for several hours as authorities collected evidence and documented the crash scene.
