BRYANT, Ind. (WISH) — Four individuals died in a crash involving two semis and a van Tuesday afternoon in Jay County, Indiana.
The collision occurred at approximately 3:45 p.m. on State Road 67 near County Road 550 East, about three miles west of the Ohio state line. According to the Indiana State Police, initial investigations suggest an eastbound semitractor-trailer failed to stop for a slowed semi, veering into the westbound lane and colliding head-on with a full-size van.
The victims have been identified as 50-year-old Henry Eicher, 25-year-old Menno Eicher, 19-year-old Paul Eicher, and 23-year-old Simon Girod, all residents of Bryant. Other individuals involved sustained injuries ranging from serious to life-threatening; no further details have been released.
Authorities said the Jay County Sheriff's Office facilitated the initial emergency response. A state police reconstruction team is currently investigating the incident, collaborating with the state police commercial vehicle division.
Residents in Jay County, which has a population of approximately 20,100, are reminded to exercise caution on the roads as investigations continue.
