A 66-year-old man was killed in a collision involving a grain truck and SUV near Allerton on Tuesday evening.
The crash occurred around 4:50 p.m. when Jay Hageman, driving a truck tractor and grain hauler southbound on County Road 250 East, reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign at County Road 300 North. He struck an eastbound Chevy Suburban, according to Illinois State Police.
Both vehicles veered off the roadway and into a ditch. Hageman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the Suburban, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Hageman, however, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The investigation is ongoing, and further details may be released by authorities.
