HARWICH, MA — Two people were hospitalized following a fiery crash early Saturday morning at the intersection of Queen Anne Road and Main Street.
Emergency responders received a report at 1:39 a.m. of a vehicle fire involving a 2010 Mercedes Benz. Witnesses said the car was engulfed in flames upon firefighters' arrival.
A nearby resident assisted in extracting two individuals from the burning vehicle before first responders reached the scene. The driver was reportedly unresponsive, while a passenger was able to exit the car independently.
Both individuals were transported to Cape Cod Hospital, where they are expected to recover, according to the Harwich Fire Department.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, with preliminary reports indicating that the vehicle may have struck a tree prior to catching fire. Harwich Police are actively investigating the incident.
Authorities praised the resident for his quick actions during the emergency. “That's our job; it's pretty heroic what he did,” said Harwich Police Lt. Aram Goshgarian.
No lane closures or road obstructions were reported following the incident.
