AURORA, Colo. — A 19-year-old man was arrested following a fatal crash linked to street racing early Saturday morning.
The incident occurred around 12:45 a.m. at the intersection of East Alameda Parkway and South Chambers Road. According to the Aurora Police Department, Edwin Rosales-Sandoval of Denver was racing another vehicle when he lost control of his BMW.
The vehicle struck a grocery store sign, causing it to roll over. A 20-year-old male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, while Rosales-Sandoval and a 17-year-old female passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to the hospital.
Authorities confirmed that Rosales-Sandoval was driving under the influence of alcohol and had a revoked license due to a previous DUI offense. He has been charged with vehicular homicide, reckless driving, DUI, and driving with a revoked license. He was booked into the Aurora Municipal Detention Center.
This incident marks Aurora's first fatal DUI involving a driver under 20 this year. The Aurora Police Department reported that since October 2024, there have been 1,130 crashes involving drivers aged 19 and younger, with 34 related to DUI and 122 involving speeding.
The Arapahoe County Coroner's Office will release the identity of the deceased passenger at a later date.
