Minneapolis, MN — A child remains following a Thursday morning crash that resulted in the deaths of two women, according to authorities.

Greyson Borg, 6, sustained a traumatic brain injury and broken bones in the incident, which occurred while he was en route to school. His mother, Liberty Borg, and a family friend, Marisa Casebolt, were killed when their vehicle was struck by a suspect fleeing Minneapolis police.

According to witnesses, the crash took place shortly after 8 a.m. as Liberty was taking Greyson to his first week of school. “He literally was on his day two of school… He never got there,” said Nichole Page, Greyson's paternal grandmother.

The community is rallying around Greyson during his recovery. Page stated that a police officer involved in the rescue visited earlier, gifting the child a new bike and soccer merchandise. “He's got at least a couple months in a wheelchair,” Page said, noting the need for extensive physical and psychotherapy.

Family members hope Greyson will return home from the hospital next week. Fundraising efforts are underway to assist with his recovery and to cover Liberty's burial expenses.

The crash is under ongoing investigation. No further details about the number or type of vehicles involved have been confirmed.
