CINCINNATI (WKRC) – Ford has announced a recall affecting nearly 1.4 million F-150 trucks due to a transmission issue that may increase crash risks.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has confirmed the recall for 1,392,935 Ford F-150 models from 2015, 2016, and 2017. The problem involves a potential loss of signal between the transmission range sensor and the powertrain control module, causing the transmission to unexpectedly downshift into second gear.
Affected owners are urged to bring their vehicles to licensed dealers for a free update of the powertrain control module software.
According to Ford, interim notification letters detailing the safety risk will be sent out on April 27, 2026. Additional correspondence will follow once the final remedy is available, expected in July 2026.
