BEDFORD, NH — Comedian Eugene Mirman is recovering from a serious crash at the Bedford toll plaza on March 31 that left his electric SUV engulfed in flames.
According to authorities, Mirman's Lucid Gravity SUV collided with the toll booth at high speed. Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle burst into flames, but Mirman has no memory of the crash itself. He expressed gratitude for the prompt response from New Hampshire State Police and Governor Kelly Ayotte, who were on-site and helped pull him to safety.
Emergency services responded swiftly, with fire officials noting the challenges of extinguishing electric vehicle fires. “When they go bad, they go bad,” said Jason Ferschke, Chief of the Natick Fire Department. He highlighted the need for specialized training to manage battery fires, which can be unpredictable and burn for extended periods.
Mirman stated he is thankful to be recovering and is back to work, recording episodes of “Bob's Burgers” and promoting his latest comedy special, “Here Comes the Whimsy.” He recently reflected on the fragility of life, noting that this incident served as a stark reminder of its value.
Mirman's vehicle reignited in a tow yard a week after the crash, further complicating recovery efforts. Authorities continue to investigate the incident, with no confirmed cause for the initial collision released at this time.
