FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (FOX26) — Authorities have identified the driver involved in a fatal crash on Highway 180 that occurred Wednesday.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), 41-year-old Zachary Kinberger remains hospitalized following the incident. The crash involved a Tesla and a Kia Soul on Highway 180 at Old Oak Road.
The driver of the Kia, identified as 34-year-old Misty Lynn, lost control and went off the road, crashing approximately 25 to 30 feet down an embankment. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
CHP officials reported that another woman and two children sustained injuries in the accident. Kinberger was transported to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries.
An ongoing investigation has revealed that Kinberger has a history of reckless driving, with 11 arrests since 2003, including a 2015 incident where he was arrested for exceeding 100 mph during a police chase. He has also faced past charges of domestic violence and has served time in prison on three separate occasions.
Witnesses reported the vehicles were traveling in the westbound direction at the time of the crash. Lane closures were in effect while emergency responders cleared the scene. The investigation into the accident continues.
