LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A crash between an SUV and a transit bus on East Desert Inn Road resulted in a traffic-related fatality after the driver succumbed to his injuries.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported that officers responded on June 27 at approximately 12:54 p.m. to an injury collision involving a vehicle and a bus on East Desert Inn Road, east of South Pecos Road.
Initial investigations revealed that a 2019 New Flyer transit bus was stopped at a bus stop when it resumed eastbound travel. A 2015 Nissan Rogue SUV driven by a 75-year-old man was approaching the bus in the right travel lane. According to police, the SUV failed to slow down or change lanes, leading to a collision where the SUV's front right struck the bus's left rear.
Emergency Medical Services transported the Nissan driver to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center with suspected serious injuries. He was admitted but did not meet the criteria for a Collision Investigation Section response at that time.
The bus driver remained at the scene, showed no signs of impairment, and reported no injuries, authorities said. On July 23, the Clark County Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner notified Metro police that the Nissan driver had died on July 1 despite life-saving measures.
This incident has been noted as the 68th traffic-related fatality under the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's jurisdiction in 2026. The investigation is ongoing.
