LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A wrong-way crash on U.S. 95 in Nye County on May 17 resulted in the death of a 78-year-old woman and injuries to three others, according to Nevada State Police.
Nevada Highway Patrol responded to the incident at approximately 4:40 p.m. near mile marker 105. A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2016 white Subaru Outback was traveling northbound in the southbound lane, overtaking several vehicles. The Subaru's driver attempted to veer left to avoid a head-on collision with a southbound 2018 gray Mercedes GLS SUV.
Both vehicles collided head-on on the southbound dirt shoulder of U.S. 95. The passenger in the Mercedes, identified as Janis Louise Bauer of Reno, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Mercedes was hospitalized with injuries.
Authorities reported that both the driver and passenger in the Subaru were also taken to a local hospital for treatment. The Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Major Incident Reconstruction Team is currently investigating the crash.
