Elderly Driver Dies in Head-On Collision in Newton
NEWTON, MA — An 83-year-old driver was pronounced dead following a head-on crash on Beacon Street Wednesday afternoon, according to authorities.
The collision occurred around 3:42 p.m. when a vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and struck another car. The driver of the first vehicle was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead by medical personnel.
Two occupants in the second vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said. Their identities have not been released.
The crash caused significant damage to both vehicles, with debris seen in the parking lot of a nearby strip mall. Beacon Street was closed during the investigation, disrupting traffic until the road fully reopened at 7:20 p.m.
The incident remains under investigation by the Newton Police Department and the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office.
