Elderly Driver Dies in Head-On Collision in Newton
NEWTON, MA – An 83-year-old driver was pronounced dead following a head-on collision on Beacon Street around 3:42 p.m. on Wednesday.
According to the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office and Newton Police, the driver's car crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle. Emergency responders transported the driver to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities reported that the two occupants of the other vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Their identities have not been released.
Witnesses observed extensive damage to both vehicles in the parking lot of a nearby strip mall. The crash prompted the closure of Beacon Street, a key thoroughfare, during the evening commute. The roadway was fully reopened by 7:20 p.m.
The incident is under investigation by local authorities.
