WOODS CROSS, Utah (KUTV) — A fatal multi-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck occurred early Saturday on northbound Interstate 15 in Woods Cross.
According to Utah Highway Patrol officials, the driver of a silver sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed when they rear-ended the semi-truck near 2600 S shortly before 4:45 a.m. The collision caused the semi-truck to collide with additional vehicles on the freeway.
The driver of the silver sedan succumbed to their injuries at the scene; their identity has not yet been released. One other individual was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
The crash resulted in the closure of northbound I-15 lanes for approximately seven hours, reopening shortly before noon, as reported by the Utah Department of Transportation. Northbound traffic was diverted at 2600 S, with reentry to the freeway available at 500 S. Authorities advised motorists to use Interstate 215 to Legacy Highway as an alternate route.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
