PLYMOUTH, Ind. (WISH) — A Marshall County Sheriff's Office SUV was struck by a vehicle on icy U.S. 31 Monday morning at approximately 7:30 a.m.

According to Indiana State Police, Deputy Matthew Brown was responding to a separate crash when a gold Chevrolet van lost control on the slick highway, sideswiping the parked SUV near 13th Road. This area is located between Plymouth and Argos.

Authorities arrested 30-year-old Carlos Alexis Flores Hernandez of Peru, Indiana, after it was determined he was driving without a valid license. As of Monday night, no formal charges had been filed against him.

Deputy Brown was evaluated at a local hospital and has since been released. The patrol SUV had its emergency lights activated at the time of the incident.

Indiana state law mandates that drivers must slow down or move over for stationary emergency vehicles displaying flashing lights. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
