Westwood, MA – A man died following a crash involving his SUV on Route 1 near an Interstate 95 off-ramp around 4 p.m. on Monday.
The 32-year-old driver from Walpole suffered serious, life-threatening injuries and was transported to a Boston hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to Westwood Police. His identity has not been released.
The driver's Nissan Rogue struck a utility pole, causing it to topple, before crashing into the Budget Inn nearby. The hotel sustained significant but non-structural damage, and power outages affected the surrounding area.
Utility companies restored power by Tuesday morning. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, with assistance from state and local police. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
