NEW YORK (FOX5NY) – A deadly multi- crash occurred early Wednesday morning on the Brooklyn Bridge, involving six vehicles and resulting in at least three fires.

According to the FDNY, six individuals sustained injuries but are expected to survive. The crash claimed the life of 32-year-old Kristopher Hambas from Scarsdale, New York, who was driving a Volkswagen.

SkyFoxHD arrived at the scene around 7:20 a.m., shortly after the incident. The Brooklyn-bound side of the bridge was initially closed due to the fires. Shortly thereafter, the FDNY also closed the Manhattan-bound side to combat the blaze.

The bridge reopened after more than an hour, but the closures led to significant traffic backups in both directions. Over 125,000 vehicles cross the bridge daily, which serves as a key route between Brooklyn and Manhattan, with thousands of pedestrians and cyclists also using it.

New York City issued an emergency alert advising drivers to avoid the area as authorities continue to investigate the crash. Further details regarding tows and the ongoing investigation will be released as they become available.
