A tragic collision occurred late Friday night when a pedestrian was struck by an SUV and subsequently hit by a Waymo vehicle in Dallas. The incident took place around 11:30 p.m. on Maple Avenue.
According to Dallas police, surveillance footage shows two individuals exiting a store and pausing at the curb. One man then stepped into the street and was hit from behind by a southbound SUV.
The force of the impact propelled him into the northbound lanes, where he was struck by an unoccupied Waymo self-driving vehicle. Police confirmed that no passengers were inside the Waymo at the time of the incident.
After the crash, the Waymo vehicle came to a stop, as shown in the surveillance video, while bystanders rushed to assist. Waymo expressed its condolences in a statement, emphasizing their commitment to safety and expressing sorrow for the victim's family.
