PALM COAST, Fla. (WKRC) – A man's last words resulted in his girlfriend facing a vehicular homicide charge following a February crash in Flagler County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Leigha Mumby, 24, was arrested in July after the incident on February 9 on an interstate roadway. Reports reveal that Mumby and her boyfriend, Daniel Waterman, 22, were arguing when she allegedly accelerated to over 90 mph, crashing into a tree. Waterman sustained critical injuries and entered a coma.

After regaining consciousness, Waterman informed investigators that Mumby had intentionally caused the collision. The argument reportedly escalated after he learned of her pregnancy and received a concerning text message. Witnesses noted that Mumby drove recklessly and allegedly told Waterman, “I don't care what happens, you'll get what you deserve,” before the crash.

Both individuals were critically injured, and although Mumby claimed to have no memory of the events leading up to the crash, she did recall waking up in intense pain. Waterman died on October 8, prompting authorities to elevate Mumby's charges to vehicular homicide. She was booked into the Flagler County Jail and later released on a $150,000 bond.

Mumby was originally charged with causing serious bodily harm in July. It has been confirmed that she was pregnant at the time, recently giving birth. Waterman's family is reportedly seeking custody of the newborn pending the results of a paternity test.
