UNDATED — In the United States, Chrysler recalled more than 61,000 Jeep Cherokee SUVs over a powertrain issue increasing crash risk.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall covers certain 2019–2023 Jeep Cherokee SUVs with a defective power transfer unit that can fail and cause a loss of drive power.
Authorities said the defect may also lead to unintended vehicle movement, increasing the risk of injury.
The action affects an estimated 61,711 vehicles in the United States, according to the NHTSA.
Chrysler, a unit of FCA US LLC, said a remedy is under development, and owner notification letters will begin mailing June 25. The company said a second notice will follow when a fix is available.
Owners can contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403 and reference recall 40D, or check vehicle identification numbers on the NHTSA website beginning May 14.
