UNDATED (WKRC) – Chrysler has recalled over 61,000 Jeep Cherokee vehicles due to a potential powertrain failure risk.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall encompasses certain 2019 through 2023 Jeep Cherokee SUVs. A defect in the power transfer unit (PTU) may lead to a loss of drive power and unintended vehicle movement, increasing the risk of a crash.
The affected recall involves an estimated 61,711 vehicles. Chrysler, a unit of FCA US LLC, is currently developing a remedy. Owners will receive notification letters starting June 25 outlining the safety concerns, with a second notice to follow when a solution is available.
For immediate inquiries, owners can contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403 and refer to recall number 40D. Vehicle identification numbers impacted by the recall will be searchable on the NHTSA website beginning May 14.
