CHARLESTON, SC — A man pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice on Aug. 25, related to a 2021 fatal crash on Ashley River Road.

Michael Glenn Eynon, 36, was originally charged with multiple felonies after a three-vehicle collision that resulted in the death of a 19-year-old passenger and injury to another driver. The incident occurred just after 11:30 p.m. on July 23, 2021, when Eynon, driving a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer , failed to yield while turning left into a shopping center parking lot.

Ryleigh O'Brien, a passenger in one of the vehicles, suffered fatal injuries. The driver of the other vehicle sustained a broken leg but survived without life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses reported that Eynon exited his vehicle and headed towards a nearby bar, allegedly speaking loudly on a cellphone. Authorities said Eynon later instructed the owner of the to report the vehicle as stolen.

After interviews with bar patrons, police confirmed Eynon initially claimed to be a witness, but subsequently admitted to being the driver after further investigation revealed inconsistencies.

In sentencing, Circuit Judge Eugene C. Griffith Jr. placed Eynon on five years of probation, granting credit for 30 days already served. Court records indicate Eynon has a history of traffic offenses, including a DUI conviction four years prior to the fatal crash, and involvement in another crash on Ashley River Road in 2017.
