QUANTICO, Va. — A family of four from Massachusetts died early Friday in a multi-vehicle crash involving a motorcoach on Interstate 95 in Stafford County.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:35 a.m. as several vehicles slowed for a work zone. Authorities reported that a bus struck a Chevrolet Suburban, which then collided with an Acura containing the Doncev family—Dmitri, 45, Ecaterina, 44, and their children, Emily and Mark. Priscilla Mafalda, 25, of Worcester, Massachusetts, was also killed in the crash.
Several people sustained injuries, with one victim reported in critical condition; most others have been discharged from Mary Washington Healthcare.
Bus driver Jing S. Dong, 48, of Staten Island, New York, has been charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter, pending further charges. Dong is currently being treated for injuries at a hospital and will remain in custody without bond until his first court appearance.
The National Transportation Safety Board is conducting a separate investigation into the crash, focusing on the speed of the bus and potential language barriers affecting the driver's communication abilities. The bus, operated by E&P Travel Inc., was transporting passengers from New York to North Carolina.
The Doncevs were on their way to a family wedding in South Carolina, which will proceed as planned, serving as a time for both celebration and mourning, according to a relative.
