Brookings Woman Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash Near Sisseton.

ROBERTS COUNTY, S.D. — A Brookings woman died in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 29 near Sisseton Monday afternoon.

The crash occurred at 3:34 p.m. on August 10 at mile marker 232, approximately 3 miles east of Sisseton. I-29 was closed for four and a half hours due to the incident.

According to preliminary information, a 52-year-old male from Tower City, North Dakota, was driving a 2024 Sierra northbound, towing a 48-foot header trailer. Simultaneously, a 34-year-old female from Brookings was driving a 2022 Ridgeline in the same direction. The GMC switched into the passing lane, leading to a collision with the Honda's trailer.

The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained fatal injuries. A 13-year-old female passenger in the Honda was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured. The Sierra driver, who was also not wearing a seatbelt, sustained no injuries.

Authorities have not released the names of those involved pending family notification. All details are preliminary as the South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
