Seven Hospitalized After Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-293 in Manchester
MANCHESTER, NH—Seven people, including a minor, were taken to the hospital following a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 293 on Wednesday morning.
The New Hampshire Department of Transportation reported the incident occurred around 7:40 a.m. on I-293 northbound at Exit 2. All lanes were closed, with traffic being diverted to the left shoulder. A total of seven vehicles were involved, prompting a response from multiple agencies.
According to Bedford Deputy Fire Chief Eric Dubowek, there were eleven patients at the scene, and seven were transported for medical care. New Hampshire State Police confirmed that none of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening, although one minor passenger suffered serious injuries.
Dubowek stated that the crash caused damage to the guardrails on the bridge, which was temporarily shut down. The 26-year-old driver of the box truck was uninjured and was found waiting on top of the vehicle for rescue.
Crews are currently working to retrieve the submerged box truck using boats and a dive team. Dubowek indicated that a crane may be necessary to lift the truck back onto the bridge.
Significant traffic delays are reported in the area, with officials advising travelers to seek alternate routes as northbound lanes remain heavily impacted.
