BENTON, Wis. – On Tuesday afternoon, a school bus transporting Benton-Scales Mound-Shullsburg middle school football players and their coaches was involved in a traffic incident while en route to a game in Stockton, Illinois.
Fortunately, officials from the three school districts reported that all athletes and coaches were unharmed, allowing them to be released to their parents shortly after the crash.
Expressing gratitude, school representatives thanked first responders for their prompt assistance at the scene, ensuring the safety of the students, coaches, and bus driver. They also acknowledged the support from the Stockton School District in the aftermath of the incident.
Counseling services will be available on Wednesday at all three districts for students directly involved in the accident, as well as for those who may be feeling the impact of the event.
In addition, personal belongings left behind by the players and coaches will be taken to Scales Mound School. Families will be informed once those items are ready for pickup.
The school districts expressed their appreciation for the supportive messages from the community and stated that the well-being of everyone affected remains a priority.
